SELECTION CRITERIA
Interested candidates must apply for this program. Applicants must be International Medical Graduates that meet the following selection criteria:
• Speak English as a Second Language
• Be a permanent resident (landed immigrant status)
• Be a resident of Alberta
• Have successfully passed the Medical Council of Canada Evaluating Exam (MCCEE)
• Have successfully passed the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Exam Part 1 (MCCQE1)
• Have taken the Enhanced Language Training Placement Assessment (ELTPA) or the Canadian Language Benchmarks Assessment (CLBA) and have a minimum of Benchmark 8 in Listening/Speaking, Reading, and Writing. The assessment must have been done in the past year.
Applications are reviewed by a selection committee. Since most applicants meet the above criteria, preference is given to those applicants that have been in Canada for less than 5 years.
Other considerations include:
• Time out of practice
• Scores on the MCCEE and MCCQE1
• Post graduate studies
• Years of experience
• Area of specialization and area(s) of interest
• Results of the MCCQE2, whether successful or unsuccessful and/or confirmation of registration for the exam
Please note: Applicants that passed the AIMG Program OSCE in 2009 were not selected to participate in the 2010 MCAP Program in Calgary.
FUNDING UPDATE:
We are currently funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and Alberta, Employment, and Immigration (AEI). Our current funding agreements end on March 31, 2010. AEI is no longer in a position to fund MCAP as they have a maximum number of years that they can fund any project. AEI has funded us for the past three years and we would like to thank them for their support during this time.
We are waiting for confirmation from CIC as to whether or not they will continue to fund the project. We are seeking another funder in addition to CIC in order to continue to offer seats to those applicants that are Canadian citizens as CIC is unable to provide funding for Canadian citizens.
We will update applicants of any changes as soon as we are made aware.
